I've been contemplating about this on and off for months and finally decided to take the plunge:
I know I keep making these polls with the promise that I'll redesign/ressurect my blog. I still, for the past two years or so, want to bring it back (because I miss "real" blogging) but my taste and goal have progressively changed over the past couple years.
As some of you may have noted, my interest in anime, drama CDs, seiyuu and even manga have waned dramatically over the past year. This was one of major reasons why I decided to close my old blog. Don't misunderstand me - I still watch the occasional anime and buy manga every few months, but there's no longer a motivation to write/blog about them. And far less motivation to entertain budding anime/manga fans who leave comments that makes very little sense and hard on the eyes.
Instead, I've been wanting to blog about real life - which are, btw, mainly positive experiences (ie. I don't have much to whine about these days) - such as the people I've met, the technology I work with, the things I see and experience daily, etc. My days are packed and somedays, I have much to share but no place or time to write them down! In short, I may still blog about some anime or manga I've seen, but it would be a fairly rare occasion and perhaps nevermore as the years passes.
The other reason why I kept my old blog going was because I wanted something reasonably "good" to impress employers during my job hunt. Now that I'm working full-time as a web developer, I wanted to start over with a clean slate - something that reflects who I am now. This was the biggest step because I care about web accessibility, and maintaining clear distinctions between content and presentation. That's why I took down the old blog.
It's quite ironic how I develop websites for a living (and to some degree, even design some) but I can't come up with some unique and personal for my blog. This was why I never posted the blog redesign - nothing I come up with lately expresses what I want to create/present. Every day for the past two years, I've looked at tons and tons of websites for inspiration but about 20% in, I always decide it's not the "right" thing....
Lately, I came to a decision - I will bring back my blog - on a condition that it's private or semi-private (depending on the results of this poll).
The reasons are simple:
- I want to blog about friends in real life and I want to use first names. Just as if you were to meet me in real life and we'd be chatting about what just happened the day before. I'm tired of trying to phrase sentences to protect anonymity. My friends won't appreciate me putting their real names online but I'm not planning to gossip here and my audience (depending on this poll) will be restricted to people that I "know".
- I want to post pictures. Of friends and family. Period. They don't want their pictures on search engines and neither do I.
I personally do not care if you will read everything I write or not - that's your choice and not the issue here. I just don't want to close out anyone who still wants to read my blog whenever he/she can or wants to.
In the end, it boils down to the question: Will you be willing to register as a user on my blog when it comes back up? I know people hate having more accounts (and I plan to incorporate OpenID so all LJ users will be covered) but I've known people who end up not reading a blog anymore of this.
In short:
I don't want to close off my current/past readers because of my whims. But I would like to know how accommodating they can be... :)Hence I present to you this poll:
Poll #1379668 The Last One, I promise
Open to:
All, detailed results viewable to:
AllConsidering all the various times in the day that you're sitting in front of a monitor, what is the minimum monitor resolution you'll ever use? (excludes cell phones!)
If I made my blog private (or partially private) which requires you to register for an account to view its contents (or all contents, if partially private), would you be willing to do so?
If you answered "No" to question #3, could you explain why without using swear words?
